Just after Easter, the rectors and superiors of all our formation houses (19 of them in all) gathered in the Generalate in Rome for a two week meeting. The meeting was composed of two parts.

The first part was a four-day symposium organised by the Congregation for Consecrated Life. Almost 1300 religious formators coming from over 100 countries participated in a gathering held in a hotel some two kilometres from our house. A report from the meeting can be found on the Society website. In my own opinion, it was an interesting experience. Some of the speakers invited to the symposium were good – others less so! The atmosphere in the symposium was very good and friendly; there was a lot of informal sharing between participants coming from all corners of the globe.

The second part of our gathering was held at the Generalate itself. The meeting was opened by a talk by the Superior General. This was followed by a short presentation of each of the formation houses. In the days that followed the formators discussed some of the more important topics that were raised in the presentations. The meeting was well led by Paul Hannon; besides the formators the meeting was also attended by Sergio Villasenor (who is the Assistant who is more directly in charge of formation) and by Jean-Michel, the Secretary for Formation. Besides the more formal discussions in the assembly, there was a lot of more informal sharing during the meals and coffee breaks. The atmosphere was fraternal and constructive.

During the meeting some photographs were taken of the whole group and then of the rectors of the various stages of formation.

Durant la semaine après Pâques, les supérieurs et les recteurs de tous nos centres de formation se sont réunis à Rome pour deux semaines de réunion à notre maison généralice de Rome. Cette réunion était divisée en deux parties.

La première partie était un symposium de 4 jours organisé par la Congrégation de la Vie Consacrée, avec une participation de près de 1,300 formateurs religieux de plus de 100 pays. Cette rencontre a eu lieu dans un hôtel à deux kilomètres de notre maison. On peut trouver un rapport de la réunion sur le site Web de notre Société. Cela a été une expérience intéressante. Certaines des conférences étaient de bonne qualité et d'autres, un peu moins. Il y avait une très bonne ambiance durant le symposium; entre autres beaucoup de partages informels entre les participants provenant des différents coins du monde.

La deuxième partie de la réunion s'est déroulée à notre maison. Elle a débuté par un exposé du Supérieur Général, suivie d'une brève présentation de chaque centre de formation. Les formateurs ont ensuite discuté les points importants mentionnés durant ces présentations. Paul Hannon était le modérateur. Les deux responsables de la réunion étaient Sergio Villaseñor, assistant du Conseil général et coordinateur de la formation et Jean-Michel Laurent, secrétaire à la formation initiale. Il y a eu aussi beaucoup d'échanges positifs et de partage à l'extérieur des heures de réunion dans une ambiance fraternelle.
